People like Maria Odufuye restore one’s faith in the TV industries. During the Intro to Script Editing course, Maria talked about her successes towards achieving so much (Sex Education, EastEnders, leading her own script editing consulting company) with so much humility, that it inspires others to forge their own path, no matter how new they are to working in Film and TV. Your past experience may have been in administration in a hospital (as had been mine), or your interest in a specific/niche field, could one day prove so useful. Maria has been extremely generous with her time, from offering to have a 1-2-1 virtual coffee with an Equal Access Network, to creating a WhatsApp group for people to connect after they have finished her Script-Ed course. I came away from her course educated about just how varied, and hands on the job of a Script Editor is – a role which requires you to be nurturing towards writers.
